I Have a Date with Memories
2018
VR (HTC VIBE) & Photoshop
This is a four-sided stage with three sections that are inspired by the narrative pattern of flashbacks in the first scene of the play.
The tree upside down in the middle symbolizes the time flowing backward and bringing her back to the beginning of these stories. The design of putting three sections of scenes together is to emphasize the hallucination in the first scene of the play, in which the actress walked through her memories.
The dressing room is shaped like an opened cosmetics; the apartment where she and the actor lived next door is shaped like a retro telephone. The lounge’s stage is a vinyl record player with the shape of a human’s head, it symbolizes the love of music that has rooted deeply in each character’s mind.

These costumes extend from “I Have a Date with Spring”, a very popular play. I used the tone of Morandi's color palettes. They all show an idea of “bundling”, how they’re trapped by themselves in the relationship. The rose quartz color one is for the main actress in her twenties. The color shows her enthusiasm and optimism, and the pants as how she is modern. The white one is for her in her thirties. The short hair signifies her change. The dress combines a coat and a yarn dress, showing her contradiction then and the transformation of her personalities — coat: lonely but independent (coats give me an idea of being alone and masking oneself, just like how the main actress has been); white yarn dress: inner gentle self. She wants to retrieve herself by taking off the mask on stage, but she still can’t. The main actor’s costume uses multilayers to symbolize his self-isolation, like multiple closed doors. The dark cool color emphasizes his being quiet, down-to-earth, mature, and pensive.
